Calder’s CBC Interview on the IOC’s Rule 40

Check out my interview on CBC Radio here in Victoria yesterday about the IOC’s relaxation of sponsorship Rule 40.  The web version of the story has a link to the podcast of the interview.

Best,

Dave

Meeting the Prime Minister (in style)

I have always wanted to meet a Canadian Prime Minister! But to do it in the Senate Chamber wearing a jean jacket is doing it in style!

Chef Survival Challenge & Feast

Madrona Farm hosted an amazing Chef Survival Challenge & Feast last weekend. Local chefs teamed up with Olympians from ’92, ’00, 04, ’08 and 2012! Special guests included 1960 Olympic Silver Medalist David Anderson and Saanich-Gulf Island’s MP Elizabeth May. I teamed up with Robin from Sooke Harbour House. His tuna meal auctioned off for $200. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful day and 100% of the proceeds will benefit farmland conservation.

Thanks to our medical team for holding our Olympic dream together – Literally!

I love this picture because it was taken by our team physio, Matt Tyler, of our team RMT Marcus Blumensaat, “holding up” the giant Olympic Rings along side the rowing course! How true is it that our medical staff holds our Olympic dream together – often times with athletic tape! Thanks to our team here in London and all those who got us here who are still back home.

Inspire a Generation

Kevin Light, 2008 Olympic Champion, took this shot of us after the heat. I really do believe that Olympic stories can inspire a generation, and this generation needs to have less screen time, more activity and healthier foods!

Great shot Kevin. Thanks.

Moving Camp Locations

Photo: Phase 1: Erba = Complete Move to Phase 2: St MoritzPhase 1: Erba, COMPLETE.  Moving to Phase 2: St Moritz in the morning.

We had a killer workout this morning that put Scott and me on our knees.  Continuing to find ways out of that head space, continuing to find ways to squeeze more from our bodies, that’s how we find our speed, that’s how we find our success.

Scott is an incredible guy to row with, always pushing to find more, never satisfied with where we’re at.  Even when the chips are down in a workout like this morning he has the ability to find more in the third and final piece of work.  Faster, higher, stronger.

Bit by bit.

Speaking of Send-offs!

Minister Chong was very kind to come out to the airport to show her support for Rowing Canada and the Canadian Olympic Team – a very special Canada Day Celebration! Thank you Minister Chong.

I have held on to all the letters that have been sent to me over the years from various elected representatives at all three levels of government.  Even though something like a letter of recognition is so easy and seemingly insignificant, it is a powerful gesture that an elected representative is willing to stop his or her duties for the minute or two that it takes to approve and sign such a letter.

The letters remind me that my community stands behind what we are trying to do – and that my community is as local as Lochside, but reaches into Saanich, British Columbia and Canada.

PS.  Another hot day here in Italy.  We had a great row on flat water!  I think that Terry took a picture so I will try to get it up on this post a little later in the day.
